We recommend medium-weight wovens, outerwear, and rainwear fabrics: cottons like gabardine, twill, denim, and sateen; silks with body like dupioni and shantung; brocade; wool suitings, gabardine, and tweed; and linen and linen blends. For rainwear, laminated cottons and waterproof rainwear fabrics are also suitable. Stretch wovens are suitable, but knit fabrics are not recommended. For the lining, we recommend something durable and slippery so it will slide over your clothing easily: lightweight silks like charmeuse, crepe de chine, or habotai; lining fabrics like rayon bemberg, acetate, or silky polyester; and silk/cotton blends. For the interfacing, we recommend: lightweight woven, tricot, or weft fusible interfacing. Do not use nonwoven “craft” type interfacing.
