Fabric suggestions
We recommend very light- weight drapey fabrics: rayon or silk chiffon, 15 denier nylon tricot, and lace for a see-through garment; cotton lawn or batiste, 40 denier nylon tricot, and
silk charmeuse for more opacity.
Depending on your fabric and lining choices, the Frenchy Peignoir Set can be demure, luxurious, or risqué. We sewed our nighties and robes from sheer nylon tricot chiffon (which dyes beautifully!), and lined the nighties with nylon tricot. For added drama, we used lace sleeves underlined with tulle for one of our robes.
Supplies
• fabric for the nightie and robe
• fabric for the nightie lining
• tulle for the robe sleeves (optional)
• thread to match your final color
• RIT dye (optional)
• 4 to 6 yards
of 3⁄4-in-wide (1.9 cm) ribbon (optional, for
the Grecian- style belt on the nightie)
• 12 in (30.5 cm) of 1⁄2-in-wide (1.3 cm) ribbon for the nightie bow
• 21⁄2 yards of 1⁄2-in-wide (1.3 cm) ribbon for the knee-length robe ties
• 31⁄2 yards of 1⁄2-in-wide (1.3 cm) ribbon for the floor-length robe ties
If you will be dyeing your nightie or robe, be sure
to choose silk, nylon, or cotton ribbon. You may wish to make bias tubing from chiffon yardage for any of the ribbon bows or Ties.
