Fabric suggestions
For the outside of your bag, use light- to medium-weight, non-stretch fabrics such as cotton broadcloth, canvas, twill, or nylon. Cotton is the easiest option for beginners, while nylon and canvas offer greater durability. For the lining, lighter fabrics are recommended. Just avoid anything stretchy or extremely thin. Keep in mind: the thicker the fabric, the harder it is to sew -so if you're new to sewing, start with cotton.
