Fabric suggestions
Quilting cotton, Essex (cotton linen blend), lightweight (~3–5 oz) canvas, or similar woven fabric. Midweight canvas is a bit too stiff for small hands to easily cinch the drawstrings closed.
If you’d like your bag to have more structure, I recommend applying a fusible interfacing like Pellon SF101 Shape Flex Fusible Interfacing to the wrong side of your lightweight fabric before sewing (requires an iron).
Fabric requirements
Two fat quarters (or 13” x 15” rectangles from your stash) for the main fabric of the bag.
If adding the optional pocket, you’ll need an additional 8” x 9” rectangle of fabric per pocket.
If using fabric to make the drawstring tabs instead of twill tape, you'll need two 2.5” x 5” rectangles of fabric.
Supplies
4 yards of drawstring (I like braided cording)
6” of twill tape (approximately 1” wide) for the drawstring tabs
1 spool of thread that matches your fabric
Safety pin or bodkin to thread the drawstring
Edgestitch presser foot
