For the hat : Preferably choose a highly stretchy fabric, such as jersey, sweatshirt fabric, or corduroy. Do you have a slightly less stretchy fabric in mind? Then take a size larger or widen the pattern slightly so that the hat sits comfortably.
For the scarf : Here you can also use a less stretchy fabric, such as fleece, cotton, or a soft wool blend. The pattern gives you the freedom to combine different textures.
