Light- to medium-weight wovens: cottons like poplin, broadcloth, shirting, sateen, pique, batik, and lawn; silks with body like dupioni and shantung; linen and linen blends; brocade; and silk/wool blends. Stretch wovens (like sateen or denim blended with spandex) are all suitable. For a contrast collar: poplin, shirting, sateen, linen, and broadcloth. For the knot tie: drapey fabrics like rayon challis, crepe de chine, and charmeuse. For the gigantic bow: crisp fabrics like poplin, taffeta, sateen, broadcloth, and shirting.

Thread to match your fabrics; 14-in regular zipper for top; 22-in regular zipper for dress; Fusible interfacing (look for lightweight woven or tricot types) for collar, facings, and sleeve band; 1 yard ¼-in-wide petersham ribbon for collar (you may use a different type of ribbon, as long as it doesn’t have a noticeable right and wrong side.)
