Fabric suggestions

The Orbit Bag is designed with fabric scraps in mind. Choose a variety of fabrics that are a similar weight. Stable woven fabrics like cotton (quilting cotton, lawn, poplin, chambray) or linen work well. Lightweight fabrics work best for piecing and quilting. Midweight fabrics are also an option but they are more challenging to work with because they create bulkier seams. You can also use already pieced or quilted projects.

Fabric requirements

View A (star) - requirements are for 42” (107 cm) or wider fabric. A (star points, bag edges, strap): 1/2 yard / meter B (star background): 1/4 yard / meter C (center square): 1/8 yard / meter D (center square in a square): 1/4 yard / meter E (lining): 1/2 yard / meter F (batting): 20" x 35" (51 cm x 89 cm) View B (solid) - requirements are for 42” (107 cm) or wider fabric. A (body, strap): 2/3 yard / meter E (lining): 1/2 yard / meter F (batting): 20” x 35” (51 cm x 89 cm)

Supplies

Interfacing: 4” x 50” (10 cm x 127 cm) of medium weight fusible interfacing is required for the strap for all views unless you choose to use webbing for your bag strap. 1” (2.5 cm) wide webbing can be substituted for the fabric strap if desired. 1.5 yards/meters is required.
