Fabric suggestions
When choosing fabric, consider how your pup will wear their bow tie. If it’s for everyday use, you’ll want something durable and washable to keep it looking great. For special occasions, fabrics like linen, corduroy, or velvet can add a touch of elegance (or ask for the leftover fabric from an altered bridesmaid dress for a perfect match).
If you’re new to sewing, I highly recommend quilting cotton or cotton flannel—it’s easy to work with, holds its shape well, and comes in tons of fun prints. Just keep in mind that large-scale prints may not work as well since only a small section will be visible on the finished bow tie.
No matter what fabric you choose, this project is a great way to use up leftover scraps and create something stylish and unique for your pup!
Fabric requirements
One of the best things about this project is that it’s a fantastic scrap buster! You won’t need much fabric—a 12" (30.5cm) square is plenty for the largest size. If purchasing, even a fat quarter will give you plenty of options.
Supplies
medium weight fusible interfacing (if you are using a heavy weight fabric choose a lighter weight interfacing)
thread in a co-ordinating color
5" (12.7cm) of 1/4" (7mm) elastic
safety Pin or loop turner
