Challenges have a new home!

We're excited to introduce a brand new section on Threadloop: challenges!

Challenges are community sewing events built around a shared goal. Maybe it's sewing something vintage-inspired, using fabric from your stash, or trying a technique you've been putting off.

If you've ever needed a little push to start a project, or found yourself endlessly scrolling for inspiration instead of actually sewing, challenges might be just the thing. They give you a theme, a sense of direction, and a group of people doing the same thing at the same time.

How we got here
For a few months now, challenges have been run in the discussion section by our enthusiastic moderator Misfit Modiste (thank you!). This has been a really great trial run for us to observe and learn from.

We could see that people were excited about challenges, but it didn’t get the visibility and structure it deserved. So, we’ve dedicated a whole new section to challenges, and connected it to other parts of the platform!

How it works
You can now join any challenges you’re interested in, discuss and exchange ideas with the community, and submit your own projects to the challenges.

One of the best parts is seeing what everyone else comes up with from the same prompt. The same theme can lead to wildly different projects, and that's what makes it fun. Every challenge has a discussion tab where you can share updates, ask questions, or just cheer each other on – whether you've officially joined or not.

Some challenges run for a set period, others are open-ended. There's no pressure to finish on time, and if life gets in the way, you can always come back to challenges you’ve joined – even if they’ve ended. It's meant to be motivating, not stressful.

For now, creating challenges is currently limited to a small group. After a trial period, we might open up challenges to everyone, but we want to make sure that everything runs smoothly first.

Get started
We’ve tried our best to integrate old challenge activity from the discussions into this new section, but there might be a few quirks when it comes to dates (when you've joined or completed a challenge, etc), but we hope that's okay.

There are already some challenges you can join, so head over to the challenges page to have a look, or read the guide if you want to know more about how it all works.

Thanks again to Misfit Modiste who laid the foundations of sewing challenges on Threadloop, and to those of you who have joined in already.

As always, we couldn't have done this without the support of our Plus members. If you believe in what we're building for the sewing community, please consider becoming a Plus supporter.
