Challenges

Challenges are community sewing events built around a shared goal. Maybe it's sewing something vintage-inspired, using fabric from your stash, or trying a technique you've been putting off.

Some challenges run for set dates, while others are open-ended so you can join anytime. You can submit projects, follow along in the discussion, and mark the challenge as complete when you're done.

Whether you're looking for motivation, inspiration, or just want to sew alongside others, challenges are a fun way to get involved. Ideal if you're the kind of sewist who thrives when someone else picks the theme and sets the deadline!

Creating challenges

For now, challenge creation is currently limited to a small group. After a trial period, we might open up challenges to everyone, but we want to make sure that everything runs smoothly first.

Browsing challenges

You can find challenges in the Explore menu, and on the dashboard. On the challenges page, there are tabs at the top that allow you to filter the challenges:

All – All challenges

Ongoing – Challenges that are currently ongoing, including timed challenges as well as ones you can join anytime
Upcoming – Timed challenges that are set in the future
Ended – Challenges that are over
Joined – Challenges that you have joined

You can also sort the challenges by newest, most popular (most participants), and ending soon.

When you click into a challenge, you will be able to see more information about it, join the challenge, see projects, discuss with others, and see a participant list.

Joining a challenge

You can join a challenge at any time, even if it hasn’t started yet. Joining a challenge just means that you have an intention to participate in it, but you can also leave at any time.

When you join an ongoing challenge, you will get the option to submit projects. If you join an upcoming project, this option will appear once the challenge has started.

Submitting a project

To submit a project to a challenge, click the ‘Submit project’ button. You will then be able to search through and choose one or more of your shared projects to add to the challenge. Private projects cannot be submitted, so make sure to share it first. Click the project(s) you want to add and click Save.

After you’ve submitted projects to a challenge, you will get two new buttons: Complete challenge and Manage submissions. If you want to remove a project from a challenge, or submit additional projects, click Manage submissions.

You can submit a project at any stage of the process, but try to make sure that your project contains at least some information and/or images so that other people can understand what you’re working on from looking at it.

FYI: you can submit a challenge to an ended challenge if you have joined it before it ended

Once a project is submitted to a challenge, you'll be able to see a link to the challenge on the project page, like so:

Completing a challenge

Once you’ve submitted one or more projects to a challenge, you then have the option to complete the challenge! To do this, click the button ‘Complete challenge’.

You will then see a box that says ‘Challenge completed’, with the dates on when you joined and completed the challenge. There’s also a little celebration button you can click to get some well deserved confetti.

Leaving a challenge

If you want to leave a challenge, you can do so by clicking the options button in the top right corner (three dots), and choosing ‘Leave challenge’. Your submissions and your activity will then be removed from the challenge (but any comments in the discussion will remain).
