Fabric suggestions
Exterior: I like to use vintage woolen blankets, but you can use any warm fabric such as wool, wool blends, corduroy, denim, pre-quilted cottons, or velvet. Fleece and soft shell are also suitable fabrics. You could also use quilting cottons for a spring weight vest or quilt an extra layer in between the exterior and lining fabric for extra warmth. Sherpa and lightweight suede make for a stunning vest.
Lining: Traditionally you would use a slippery fabric for lining; however, cotton, linen and flannel work well too. If using a lightweight exterior fabric, you could use pre-quilted polyester lining to provide extra warmth.
Fabric Considerations
The optional pockets add considerably more thickness to the seams in those areas, so take this into consideration when choosing fabric You may wish to add “secret” pocket on the inside using lining fabric if needed.
The optional flutter sleeve, if made from a particularly thick fabric such as a blanket, can be challenging to turn out through the shoulders during construction. You may wish to use lining for both sides of the sleeve.
